Revelation9: 3-11

Rev 9:3And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.4And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.5And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man6And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.7And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like goldand their faces were as the faces of men.8And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.9And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and thesound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horsesrunning to battle.10And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings intheir tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.11And they had a king over them, which is the angel of thebottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

There are locust that still swarm in the East, anyone who has traveled there can describe the swarm as a living moving, eating cloud of the locust was the symbol for devastation.
Joel speaks of the them saying:
1. They lay all greenery to waste, this includes the grape vine, corn field and all pasture land.  Herds die due to nothing left to eat
2. Great strong people who darken the sky & like mighty men of war.   The numbers in the swarm blots out the sun.
3.  Destructive as fire.  Nothing escapes them, flames have no mind just destroys everything in its path, no discernment.
4.  They are like little horses and run like chariot.  They are fast and they fly
5.  Noise like a flame devouring the stubble.  The noise is made by all locust and it generated by it rubbing its legs against its body.
6.  They scale mountains, climb into houses.  There is nowhere they will not go.  They will be everywhere.

Facts:
Locust are generally  2 inches in length with a 4-5 inch wing span.
The  head of a locust looks like a little horse head, thus the Italian word for locust is cavaletta and the German is Heupferd.

Now, look in verse 4.  It is commanded not to touch the vegetation!  This is very scary, what will they attack?  Read further, they are to attack those who do not bear the seal of God on their foreheads.
In addition, the locust will not "eat" the people, these "demon locust" are equipped with at scorpion like stinger.  the "normal" sting of a scorpion is worse than that of a hornet.  It can kill but normally does not.
The attack of this beast is to last 5 months.  Which just happens to be the normal life span of a locust.

God place limitations on Satan in that Satan could not deceive the ones with the mark.  To me, the fact that god placed that limitation, means two things;  1.  He loves us so much and 2. The deception, delusion, will be powerful.

Lets look at the description of the locust in detail:
1.  Horse shape and prepared unto battle- they will be fast and ruthless.
2.  Heads had crowns like gold- Possibly referring to the lack of a true faith in Christ as our King,& Lord, an apostasy if you will.
3.  Faces of men and hair like women and teeth like a lion- face - symbol of intelligence; hair- seductiveness and attractiveness; teeth of lion, would speak of the destruction to those who put their trust in to these creatures.
4.  Breastplates of iron- to stand for their inability for quilt, remorse or have a conscience.
5.  Wings and the sound- speaks of a swiftness in which they will act.
We then are told that those who are stung will want to die but death will not come.

And the finale of this description should surprise no one.  Their leader is Satan.

This concludes the first woe.

Blessing on all till next time,

Calabash
